The lives of Pi

Apart from being a great article on the preciousness and commerciality of some “creative” types nowadays, I found http://www.wired.com/2014/05/pi-takedown/ rewarding in two other ways :-

1. It introduced me to the word asshattery which I had not encountered before but perfectly describes the target behaviour, and

2. It obliquely refers to the relationship between Pi and the irrational transcendental constant e (aka Euler’s number or Napier’s constant), the basis for natural logarithms. These two constants together define the Standard Normal Distribution (aka Bell Curve) thus :-

Probability Density Function describing Standard Normal Distribution

In statistics the Standard Normal Curve is frequently used to describe the distribution of a set of values around its Mean or average value. When analysing data for growing obesity in western populations, the answer will be provided by Pi and e, as many of us suspected all along.

Pi + e = Pie
